Academics Climate Tech Innovation Challenge Camp
2024-10-20
🏆 Congratulations! 🏆
A huge shoutout to our senior students Ocean Fang, Joanne Tsai, and Richard Zheng for winning 1st place nationwide in the High School Climate Tech Net Zero Innovation Challenge Camp, organized by MIT Media Lab and other prestigious institutions! 🎉
This challenge, held at the 2024 Taiwan Climate Action Expo in collaboration with National Taiwan University and National Taiwan Normal University, invited high school students across Taiwan to propose innovative solutions for climate change. Finalists underwent intensive training, including courses on smart city big data applications, AI, QGIS, and ongoing MIT projects, to refine their proposals.
Our students focused on temperature justice and the rights of workers in extreme heat, particularly food delivery workers. Their project, "Heat Alert," integrates:
✅ A wellness app for delivery workers
✅ A microclimate sensor-equipped helmet
✅ Geospatial technology to map cooler delivery routes
Their research also included a consumer willingness survey, revealing strong support for longer wait times if it means delivery workers can take safer, cooler routes. This valuable insight can help drive corporate ESG initiatives.
As climate challenges intensify, diverse and innovative solutions are essential. We are incredibly proud of our students for their forward-thinking approach and commitment to a sustainable future! 🌍💡✨
